Our History
In the late 1950’s Leonard Severt began to haul tomatoes from South Florida to Jacksonville, Florida to sell at his newly opened Farmer’s Exchange. Leonard operated as Severt & Sons Produce while collecting rent from other vendors at the Farmer’s Exchange. Over time Leonard’s sons Mike and Danny Severt became the owners and operators of the Jacksonville location. In 1989 they expanded their operation on a seasonal basis to the South Carolina Farmers Market located in Columbia. In 1995 they sold their Jacksonville location to begin a year round wholesale distribution in Columbia as Severt & Sons Produce Columbia, Inc.
Today, Severt & Sons Produce is a third generation family owned and operated wholesale distributor of a full line of quality fresh fruits and vegetables, peanuts, cheese, jams and jellies, and an array of jar items from honey, chow -chow, bbq sauces, ciders to pickled okra and beets, and an expanding hespinanic line. We purchase seasonal produce from local farmers as well as farmers throughout the United States. We strongly support products made in the U.S.A.
In 2010, Severt & Sons will relocate when the South Carolina Farmers Market moves from Richland to Lexington County, SC. The new facility will provide 32,000 square feet of state of the art refrigeration and the latest technology for safety and handling techniques
Presently, we are located on 1001 Bluff Road, Shed #3 in Columbia, SC. We will be relocating when the South Carolina Farmer’s Market moves to Lexington County, Sc.
