In the late 1950s, Leonard Severt began to haul tomatoes from South Florida to Jacksonville, Florida to sell at his newly opened Farmer’s Exchange. Leonard operated as Severt & Sons Produce while collecting rent from other vendors at the Farmer’s Exchange. Over time Leonard’s sons Mike and Danny Severt became the owners and operators of the Jacksonville location. In 1989 they expanded their operation on a seasonal basis to the South Carolina Farmers Market located in Columbia. In 1995 they sold their Jacksonville location to begin a year-round wholesale distribution facility in Columbia. It became known as Severt & Sons Produce Columbia, Inc. originally located at the State Fairgrounds.
In 2010, Severt & Sons relocated when the South Carolina Farmers Market moved from Richland County to Lexington County. Our facility provides 32,000 square feet of state-of-the-art refrigeration and the latest technology for product safety and handling techniques.
Today, Severt & Sons Produce is a family-owned and operated wholesale distributor of a full line of quality fresh fruits and vegetables, peanuts, cheeses, jams and jellies, bottled drinks and an array of jarred items including honey, chowchow, barbecue sauces, ciders, pickled okra, and beets. We purchase seasonal produce from local farmers as well as farmers throughout the United States. We strongly support products made and grown in the U.S.A.
